Short Chimney in Barre, VT

This 8” Class A chimney (commonly called “Metalbestos”) originally vented a wood stove. When the homeowner switched over to a pellet stove, he was not getting the correct draft. He shortened the chimney to the height seen in the picture in order to improve the draft. Unfortunately, this didn’t help.

The facts:

Most pellet stoves are designed to vent on a much smaller flue than wood stoves. Converting from a wood stove to pellet stove will sometimes require a completely different venting system.

An 8” round flue is too large for nearly every pellet stove on the market.
