Prefabricated fireplaces (essentially a metal fireplace and chimney) are common in popular ski destinations like Warren, Stowe, and Stratton, VT.

After inspecting this fireplace, we found that the flue pipe had warped, the firebrick panels were cracked and broken, and the chimney was in general disrepair. After discussing our findings with the homeowner, we agreed that the only safe option was to replace the entire system.

For this project, we first removed the stone façade, numbering the pieces as we went so we could easily put them back together. We then reconfigured the interior chase to meet current fire codes, removed the damaged fireplace and chimney, and installed a new fireplace.

After we re-applied the stone façade, you couldn’t even tell we were there.  Now the homeowners are able to enjoy weekends in Vermont a little bit more, thanks to the sight and warmth of their new wood-burning fireplace.
