Clear, Thorough & Photo-Documented
Chimney Inspections in
Vermont & New Hampshire
Most chimney problems don't announce themselves. Cracks in the flue liner, deteriorating masonry, or a slow flashing leak can develop quietly for a full season before you notice anything inside the house. A professional chimney inspection is the most straightforward way to find out what's going on before it turns into something bigger.
Chimney Savers provides certified chimney inspections across Vermont and New Hampshire, including camera and drone scans, clear written reports, and fixed-cost repair proposals. Whether you're scheduling a routine annual inspection, doing due diligence on a home purchase, or following up on something a previous technician flagged, you'll come away knowing exactly what your chimney's condition is — and what, if anything, needs to be done about it.

Why Routine Chimney
Inspections Matter
An inspection is a straightforward investment that gives you an honest picture of where your chimney stands. Here's what that means in practice.
Catches Problems Before They Grow
Small issues — a hairline crack in the flue liner, a gap in the flashing, a crown that's starting to wear — are easy to address when they're caught early. Left alone, most chimney problems get more involved and more expensive over time.
Confirms Your Heating System Is Safe to Use
A chimney that's deteriorating doesn't vent the way it should. Annual inspections verify that your stove or fireplace is venting properly, your liner is intact, and the system is safe heading into another heating season.
Supports Real Estate and Insurance Needs
Whether you're buying a home with a fireplace, preparing to sell, or documenting damage for an insurance claim, a professional inspection report with photos and clear written findings is exactly what you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I have my chimney inspected?
According to the Fire Protection Agency, chimneys should be inspected yearly and, if necessary, cleaned. The amount of buildup in your chimney will vary depending on how often you use it, the construction of the chimney, the design of the appliance, and the type of fuel.
What should I expect during a chimney inspection?
Here’s what you can expect when you choose Chimney Savers for your chimney inspection.
Who? We send only fully-trained and nationally certified chimney sweeps to your home. Our chimney sweeps are not only CSIA-certified - the industry gold standard for chimney inspections - but they are honest, knowledgeable, and friendly.
What? When our chimney sweeps first arrive at your home, they will introduce themselves and will ask you to show them your chimney and heating appliance. Before beginning any work, they will lay down drop cloths and set up a HEPA (High‐Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum to ensure the house is left spotless. Then they use state-of-the-art equipment to inspect and diagnose any issues throughout the chimney system. Finally, they will compile their findings -including photographs of your chimney – and recommendations in a report for your records.
How long? A chimney inspection will usually be done in less than one hour, but can last as long as two, depending on the complexity and design of the system in your home.
Where? We will need access to all areas of the house that the chimney runs through. This includes the area around the appliance(s), the basement where the bottom of the chimney is, the attic, and the roof.
What if you find something urgent?
We’ll explain the risk, provide a fixed-cost repair proposal, and can arrange emergency repairs if needed.
Will my insurance company accept your report?
Yes — we provide insurance-ready reports and photos documenting cause and damage for claims.
Can I do an inspection myself?
No. Certified professionals have the training and equipment (camera scans, borescopes, knowledge of NFPA standards) that homeowners don’t. DIY inspections miss hidden hazards.
What is a Level II Inspection?
This is referring to the three levels of inspection outlined by the National Fire Protection Association. NFPA 211 is the standard upon which certified chimney sweeps base their services. Each level of chimney inspection covers specific items depending on the individual appliance and venting system. Please read the explanation of the three levels of inspections and what services your chimney service technician should provide for each level. Or for more information, visit [csia link].
Level 1 Chimney Inspection: If your appliance or your venting system has not changed and you plan to use your system as you have in the past, then a Level 1 inspection is recommended. In a Level 1 inspection, your chimney service technician will examine all readily-accessible portions of the chimney exterior, interior and accessible portions of the appliance and the chimney connections.
Level 2 Chimney Inspection: A Level 2 inspection includes everything in a Level 1 inspection, plus the accessible portions of the chimney exterior and interior including attics, crawl spaces, and basements. Level 2 inspection also includes inspection by video scanning to thoroughly examine the inside of your chimney. This kind of inspection is recommended anytime you buy or sell a house, as well as after a chimney fire or house fire.
Level 3 Chimney Inspection: A Level 3 inspection is designed to uncover structural damage or problems in concealed areas of the chimney. In addition to everything in a Level 1 and a Level 2 inspection, it includes the removal of certain components of the building or chimney (e.g., chimney crown, interior chimney wall) when necessary. This would only be done to gain access to concealed areas that are suspected of being hazardous. A Level 3 inspection would likely be recommended if there is damage to your home because of a chimney fire or severe storm.
Do you inspect gas or pellet appliances?
Yes — inspections cover all chimney and venting systems, including wood, gas, pellet, and oil appliances.
What does a drone inspection show?
Drones capture high-resolution exterior photos and video of flues, crowns, flashing, and higher sections of the chimney that are unsafe to access with ladders. Drones don’t replace internal camera scans, but they’re excellent for exterior condition assessment, commercial stacks, and tall chimneys.
